The search for the overseas amateur

Could there be any truth in the rumour that Ratzinger will be the Carlton overseas amateur next season?  Apparently, Ben, as he is known to his team mates, is a fan from afar of all Carlton's doings and a keen reader of the website.   He has friends in the vicinity of the ground.  A recent match report first brought these facts to light.  He says that he is a top order batsman, very orthodox, used to being on the back foot.  His helmet is a little bit pointed and jewel encrusted and his bat has a strange crook like shape.  It is made by Mitre.  Sunday games might be a problem for him.  Apparently he has visited Edinburgh recently, but to his disappointment was unable to find the time for a net with Drummo, so we might have to take a leap of faith with him.

  1. What Fantasy Bob may not know is that Herr Ratzinger and a former Carlton player were members of the same University community (in Germany) at the same time. This might add some credence to the rumour.

  2. Iain - thanks - I did not know this - it is certainly food for thought - but I must admit I thought a name like Ben Ratzinger could only be Australian. You're not going to say Hilfenhaus is a Dutchman now are you?

  3. Ben is a nickname. His given name is Joe. But, unlike other people with a nickname (such as your doughty groundsman) he got to choose it himself.

  4. Iain - many thanks. This is helpful information and although I am glad to see reference to our doughty groundsman Moon, I am not sure why you think it necessary to bring spiritual leaders such as he into this discussion.

  5. surely everyone knows that the Pope plays for Holy Cross...er that's James Pope. But HX would surely be the only Edinburgh club that THE Pope could play for??
