Every cricketer knows the feeling of pure happiness when they stride forward their weight miraculously for once over the front knee, the bat comes smoothly through, barely seems to contact with the ball and it is rattling the boundary boards before he can blink. Every cricketer has felt it once. Some more than once. Or in Fantasy Bob's case just about. Nearly. But it was enough. It is life affirming - suddenly the point of existence is clear. Existential angst is dispelled. To be is to do? No, to be is to cover drive.
Cricketers face uncertain months of being denied this succour. It is uncertain when they will return to the crease. They must for the moment live off their memories. Many will lose themselves in the archives and replay innings of long ago, recall Test matches that thrilled or dispute endless lists of greatness.
Interested though he is in cricket and pleasurable though these activities might be they fall short of what FB needs to lighten the gloom of these dark days.
