Battersea

Go ahead Edinburgh cricket club Carlton were quick to deny that they had expressed an interest in the purchase of Battersea Power Station for the purpose of developing a new ground.  Rumours abounded in London's property circles that the Scottish cricket champions would step in after minor football outfit Chelsea had announced plans to redevelop the site which would involve using the iconic building's iconic chimneys as iconic goal posts.  Local residents told reporters 'A replica of Grange Loan on the South Bank is just what this area needs. It would be iconic.'

A spokesman for the club told Fantasy Bob, 'Yes, we had looked at the Battersea option, but the club's planning commitee had to take account of the fact that it was the cover for what most of them regard as one of Pink Floyd's poorer albums.  They didn't think it appropriate for a club of our status.  However having looked at the Floyd's career as a whole, the committee is now evaluating options for a new Grange Loan on the Dark Side of the Moon.'  Now that would be iconic.

  1. On the subject of iconic Pink Floyd albums, perhaps The Wall might be a more appropriate metaphor for FB's failing talents on the field. Dismissal by the dreaded left-arm spinner for a paltry score might leave him feeling Comfortably Numb.

    1. Indeed. Any number and artificial resuscitation may be required.

  2. Didn't know our Doughty Groundsman had a dark side? - now there's a thought?!

  3. Any suggestion that Pink Floyd's album was in fact inspired by Carlton's Doughty Groundsman who is occasionally referred to by the nickname Moon, is hotly disputed by rock music and grass maintenance critics. Both sides of the argument point to the celebrated opening lyrics of the song Brain Damage - The lunatic is on the grass - as conclusive proof of their claim. The Doughty Groundsman himself claims never to have met Roger Waters.

  4. The DG tells me that, had he been at Grange Loan, the umpire who demanded ludicrous extra ground markings would have seen his dark side.

  5. Did you ask David Gilmour about this when you played against him on Saturday?

    1. No but his guitar work wasn't up to it's usual standard.
